Founded in 2004 from the private collection of the visual artist Emanoel Araujo, since then the Curator and Director of this institution, Afro Brasil Museum has built over the last 10 years a path of decisive contributions to brazilian cultural universe. It shows the criativity and boldness of the Brazilian people and their artists from today and from centuries ago.

With a collection of more than six thousand works and a library of about 12,000 titles, Afro Brasil Museum presents the contributions of African descendants to the formation of national identity.

The museum is opened from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm extending until 6pm. On the last Tuesday of each month, the museum is opened until 9pm.


The museum is open all year, except on:

  • December 24th and 25th
  • December 31st
  • January 1st
